ABOUT US

The Baby Label is a free-style clothing brand defined by a boho urbane aesthetic. Our range of cotton comfortwear marries delightful prints with impeccable tailoring. From kurta pyjama to salwar kameez, boho pants, tees, shirts, dresses and more, The Baby Label works on classic as well as modern silhouettes, embodying the innocence of childhood. We employ traditional Indian techniques like bandhej, hand block printing and embroidery to create a most unique handcrafted piece of garment. We believe that irrespective of what is popular and trending, a connoisseur will always appreciate and value handmade.
The Baby Label has a strong affinity to cotton and natural textiles. The fabric is selected for its softness which makes it safe for newborns, while the prints are rendered in natural, plant-based or azo-free dyes which are gentle on skin. Each design is tested on my child and makes it to the final collection only once it has fared well on all counts of comfort.

OUR STORY

As a child I was witness to my mother’s immaculate aesthetic. I have vivid memories of her fussing over the 'bareeki' (detail) of the embroidery, or the right kind of 'turpayi' (a stitch specific to hemming), the finish in a kaaj (button loop) and more. The pursuit of perfection is my inheritance from my mother. As I entered motherhood, I noticed a lack of good quality clothes with an Indian aesthetic. And thus began the story of The Baby Label. I took it upon myself to dress my son in kurta pyjamas, for there is no garment more child-friendly than this easy, breezy pair of top and bottoms. My challenge was to liberate the kurta pyjama of the garishness that had taken over it in the past few decades. To bring back the simplicity to the kurta pyjama was not rocket science, the silhouette is inherently simple, but what was needed to make it belong to this century was playfulness. Finally I designed a few pieces which found an appreciative audience in friends and family. That was my cue to take the entrepreneurial journey with a tot in tow. The Baby Label, my second born, arrived in 2015.
In the short five years we have experimented on textile, designing, prints, tailoring, and grown with every hit and miss experience. The pursuit of perfection has taken me across India to source the finest fabric, chhipas (hand block printers), tailors, embroiderers to bring kurta pyjama that is modern and classic at the same time. While my first clients came from the pool of my family and friends, today The Baby Label can be spotted on children across the globe.

FOUNDERS

Divya Bansal and Ankit Gupta: Having grown up in Himachal Pradesh, Divya Bansal’s aesthetic sensibility features a distinct stamp of the hills and their ethereal beauty. It also bears a shadow of her mother’s impeccable taste. Divya is a science graduate and university topper (Panjab University), who forayed into banking (Citibank) and business marketing (DNA media). However, her keen interest in art kept resurfacing through her corporate career, only to be put on the backburner. The arrival of her son gave her the chance to bring her creativity to the fore. As she started designing kurta pyjamas for him, she saw an opportunity which was ably supported and seized by her husband Ankit Gupta. Together they launched The Baby Label in 2015. Armed with an MBA from Symbiosis (SCMHRD), Ankit forged a highly successful banking career (Citibank, Kotak Mahindra Bank) and is also the founder of the financial consultancy Arthvriksha. With his deep understanding of business and finance he forms the spine of The Baby Label. As a team Divya and Ankit have their roles chalked out, she designs and curates The Baby Label, while his financial wisdom anchors the venture.
